What to Expect from a Truck Driving Academy
If you love the idea of life on the open road, the freedom that comes with taking charge of your career, and driving a big rig across America’s beautiful highways, it’s time to consider enrolling in a truck driving school. Here’s what you can expect when you attend OBC’s Truck Driving Academy.
Complete Training Quickly
First of all, unlike other professions, you don’t need to spend years or even months training to drive an 18-wheeler. Instead, you can complete our truck driving program in just four weeks (or ten weeks if you take weekend classes). That means that you’ll be able to start your new career quickly and be out earning a paycheck instead of sitting in a classroom.
Learn the Rules of the Road
You’ll learn all about the rules, regulations, and traffic laws you must abide by when on and off the road, some of which are specific to commercial drivers such as required home time, how many hours a day you can legally drive, electronic logging device rules, drug testing, licensing requirements, and securing cargo.
Gain Experience Behind the Wheel
You’ll learn how to conduct a pre-trip inspection, how to maintain a vehicle by checking safety, emergency, and mechanical equipment, and all the basics of actually driving a big rig. That includes learning how to shift, back up, drive on the public roads, park and more.
Prepare for Your CDL Exam
Everything you’ll learn in our truck driving academy is geared towards you successfully passing your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exam. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll pass the exam, our attentive instructors and staff will do everything in their power to ensure that you learn the required skills and knowledge to get your license.
Get Help Finding a Job
Once you pass your CDL exam, our truck driving academy provides job placement assistance to help you find the trucking opportunity that’s best for you. Our graduates have gone on to work at some of the largest carriers in the country, including US Express, Homerun, and Werner Enterprises. We also host recruiter events and work with national, regional, and local employment agencies to help connect you with a career you’ll love.
Be in Demand
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that by 2028 there will be nearly 2 million truck driving jobs in the United States -- about 100,000 more than there were just a couple years ago. As a truck driver, you’ll be in a high demand profession, which means you’ll have a greater chance at finding a good, secure job right out of the gate.
If you’re interested in pursuing a rewarding career as a truck driver, OBC is here to help you reach your goals. Check out our Truck Driving Academy, which offers one of the most respected Class A CDL programs in the Tri-State region. Ready to hit the road? Visit our website or contact us today!
